It’s been a long time since I read a book in a day, but I simply couldn’t put this whodunnit that takes place in a school for magically gifted students down.
A magical murder mystery that had all the hard-boiled detective elements I love in a novel. The story even had some sparks of romance, which I don’t often come across in thrillers.
I think more than anything though it’s a story about siblings and tragedies, past and present. It is also about how people can experience the same events but come away changed in vastly different ways.
There are the lies we tell ourselves.
There are lies we tell others.
There are lies told for kind, loving reasons and, of course, lies told for sinister ones. This mystery does a good job of untangling both.
