Ordinary Monsters 🖤 Someone described it as “Victorian X-men” and I knew I wanted to read it.
It’s creepy but an elegant creepy. An unsettling, horrifying, elegant creepy.
From the bridge scene at the end of chapter six I was both terrified of what was coming next and fully committed to seeing it through.
This world and these characters are beautifully written, consistent through every moody scene, and there are some truly astonishing scenes (the train!)
I didn’t feel like I was reading this book, I felt like I was living this book, watching each mesmerizing chapter unfold (thankful that I could close the book and be safe in my own home but feeling just a tad guilty for everyone I left behind in the pages).
It’s going to be difficult to wait until 2024 for the next book.
